Holter Rental
Holter Rules
Individual borzoi owners are able to rent the BHWF Holter monitor and all related accessories/equipment. Dogs with a recent immediate family history of sudden death, a new diagnosis of arrhythmias, or a diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy will be given priority.
Individual Rentals
The form Holter Rental Agreement - Individual, provided below, is required for all rentals, and they must be on file with BHWF Vice President Danielle Snyder Steenkamp, DVM. An individual will need to complete the Individual Sign-out Form prior to payment and the rental of the equipment after a Holter Rental Agreement - Individual and the Information Release Agreement are on file.
Individual rentals need payment through BHWF PayPal or a cheque made payable to the Borzoi Health and Welfare Foundation, after the Holter Rental Agreement - Individual is received and authorized. The equipment will be supplied to the person in accordance with the Holter rental schedule once payment has been validated.
The BHWF rental fee will cover consumables, typical wear and tear, and the procurement of future Holters.
Any additional funds will be used to support ongoing heart research, which may include the Valentine’s Fund or other BHWF cardiac health initiatives.
Individual Holter Rental Costs
First Dog: Holter rental $40
Second Dog: Holter rental $30
Borrower agrees to share results and any cardiac health updates, as outlined in the Information Release Agreement. Each individual rental is covered by one mail out. Additional dogs are defined as dogs with the same owner.
Club Rentals
The BHWF may authorize Borzoi Clubs to administer Holter usage to Club members and regional groups of Borzoi owners as Agents on behalf of the BHWF. Agents are required to use all reasonable efforts to maintain the equipment in good working order, to encourage its correct usage and maintenance, and to report any issues to the BHWF (Danielle Snyder Steenkamp).
Confidentiality
The precise, individual information on Holter reports that a borrower selects to provide will never be disclosed to anyone or to a BHWF member other than those parties listed in the Information Release Agreement. Information will only be disseminated in the form of anonymous, aggregated statistics. This information is being provided in order to better understand the different forms of arrhythmias that can affect a Borzoi's health.
Obtaining Your Results
Alba Medical Inc. offers holter reading services (results only), or you are free to transmit the data to the veterinary cardiologist of your choice for interpretation. When providing Alba Medical, Inc. your results, kindly request that they include the Full Disclosure. If you intend to report the findings to a veterinary cardiologist, the Full Disclosure will also be crucial. For an extra cost, Alba Medical, Inc. provides a cardiologist to interpret the findings. The data must be sent to Alba Medical, Inc. or any other party you have designated to receive the results. If you intend to send your veterinarian the results, it is advised that you get in touch with your veterinarian to ensure that the results are provided through his or her preferred manner (they will need the Full Disclosure).
Rental Period
For 1 to 5 dogs, rental periods will last for up to a week. But, if you need more time to complete the test, clean and air dry the vest, and mail the equipment, you must request a longer duration PRIOR to the rental agreement being signed. Equipment arriving late will incur a late fee of $10.
Cleaning of Vests, Belts, and Pockets
Prior to being returned, the vest must be washed and AIR dried. NEVER use a dryer to dry the vest. Use a light detergent and a moderate wash cycle, then AIR dry the clothes. Please make sure to lint roll off dog hair. Failure to return clean vests, belts, and pockets will incur a $10 cleaning fee.
Shaving
Dogs will need to be shaved behind the elbow on both sides to accommodate the electrodes. This is not mandatory, but ensures better connection of the electrodes. If you do not secure a good connection and the test must be redone you will be expected to pay another rental fee. You are responsible for obtaining extra electrodes if needed, which can be purchased from AlbaMedical.com
Protecting the Equipment
Unless your cardiologist specifies otherwise, each dog's recording duration is 24 hours. Most regular activities may be participated in by the dog. Please refrain from participating in water activities or being outside in the rain. It is recommended that the borrower avoid the use of anything that may snag/catch on the monitor or leads, such as dog doors, and closely monitor crate openings. Any equipment loss or damage is the renter's responsibility. It is strongly advised that the renter designate a time to keep a close eye on the dog throughout the rental duration. When you are unable to watch the dog while it is wearing the vest and the Holter, it is advised that it wear an Elizabethan collar, Bite-Not collar, muzzle, and/or be crated. In order to prevent the dog or other animals from pulling and tearing at the vest, Holter monitor, or leads, the dog MUST be continuously watched when playing with others.
Only the electrodes are disposable. The leads/wires are not throwaway.
Return Shipping
Borrower pays for shipping/handling costs on the return of ALL equipment to Danielle Snyder Steenkamp, DVM. Please insure the package for the full amount outlined in the Holter Rental Agreement - Individual.
